I started Fieldnotes after a month in Lisbon where every guide I read told me what to see and none told me how a day there actually goes. So I began writing that part down.

How I travel

Solo, slowly, on a mid-range budget. I stay at least a week in a city when I can, take public transport, and walk more than is reasonable.

What you’ll find here

Guides are practical and tested — routes, timings, prices as I found them. Trip Reports follow longer journeys day by day, including the parts that didn’t work. Photo Essays are for places that are better shown than explained.
